Inspired by Gothic cathedral ceilings, star charts, and astrology, the Celeste series (2009-2014)questions the human need for remaking nature in our own image. Every constellation is a human confection, all astrology wishful meaning making, as earthbound as the architecture that celebrates otherworldly experience. These paintings on paper are segmented like maps. They reference tarot, holy, and playing cards——that we trade, arrange and discard in creating sense of human existence.
