Baltimore Elite Giants
From its beginnings as the Nashville Elite Giants, the team moved first to Washington, then to Baltimore in 1938. Home games were played at Bugle Field located at Biddle Street and Edison Highway.
From 1938 to the dissolution of the Negro National League after the 1949 season the Elite Giants showcased the talents of many of black baseball's greatest players and furnished more than its share of top talent to the major leagues. Among the stars who wore the uniform were Hall-Of-Famer Roy Campanella, Joe Black (1952 National League Rookie of the Year with the Brooklyn Dodgers) and Junior Gilliam (1953 National League Rookie of the Year, also a Dodger).
Though the Elites always fielded strong teams, championship years proved elusive. While in Baltimore the team captured only two league titles -- 1939 (Negro National League) and 1949 (Negro American League).
