Tropo Manufacturing is an international art collective whose membersDaisy Hascott UK, Datu Galang PHL, Fausto Herrera-Dominguez ESP, Martine Gilbert FRA, and Max King Cap USAcreate exhibitions; of their own work, singly and in concert, and of the work of like-minded artists. Spread across three continents its five members have never been in the same room together, nor are there plans for such a union. The members communicate exclusively over the internet, through email, webphone, and networking sites. The exhibitions, however, are entirely palpable.
Drawn together by a similar position on artmaking
1. All members must have a life worthy of fable. 2. Authorship is individual but interpretation and production is collective. 3. There is no difference between history and fiction. 4. Proxy is simultaneity 5. Narrative is inexhaustible.
and a necessarily pragmatic notion of dissemination
6. Each artist may rely upon the other four as workers in his or her studio. 7. Each work, no matter its fabricator, is an original; there are no copies. 8. Transport is a mostly wasted expense. 9. Archival materials equal self-delusion. 10. Commercial means of reproduction distill the mythical into the egalitarian.
Using these guidelines in 2008 Daisy Hascott created in an industrial park in east London Ever After, an exhibition based on the terror and moral stridency of fairytales. All members of Tropo Manufacturing contributed work, all of which was fabricated by Ms. Hascott. Similarly, Reperio Partum Verum (invention creates truth, also the motto of the group) was shown in a gallery in Santa Ana, California. For this event Max King Cap created all the works as dictated by his absent fellows. Similar manifestations are in constant planning.
In addition the collective has curated more than a dozen exhibitions that have included the artists listed below.
